Note on using the Context Menu for Copy/Modify/Paste

  • The examples show the use of the Context Menu for edits.

  • While typing the terms can occasionally seem faster, we use the Equation Context Menu:

    • Used here for demonstration reasons.

    • For Time Savings gained using that method. This menu usage enables Intelligent Notes to make accurate and useful suggestions.

  • Live Share can also be used for teaching.

  • This video shows one teacher and 3 students but other options are available.

    • The number of students can be very large.

    • The Students can be located in classroom or remote, or both.

    • The in classroom could also directed onto a large screen for the whole class.

  • Other benefits of this method

    • The solution can include much more detailed annotations for explanation than is typically done on a whiteboard.

    • The solution can be included with the homework files, so students have instant access to the class lecture.

  • This example shows the Share contact's list includes the students with which we're sharing.

  • It shows the shared file automatically shows up when shared.

  • This example does NOT use 3rd party sharing apps like Zoom or GoToMeeting.

Live Share Teaching

  • The Context Menu opens with selected terms which can then be modified, colorized and pasted.

  • For these opening methods, the cursor/pointer must be over the desired terms. Or the terms already selected.

    • Right-Click.

    • Ctrl-M  (Cmd-M) for devices with a keyboard.

    • [ Menu Button ] (top-right) of button bar.

    • Virtual Mouse (for touch devices)

  • 4 types of Context Menus

    • Equation Menu for rows/sides.

    • Selection Menu is the same with one field.

    • Comment Menu.

    • Drawing Menu for adding shapes.

These are simple modifiers
and Row insertion.

Calculator options row:

  • Calculate the result if terms are Numeric.

  • [10^x] will change the result to exponential mode.

  • [.00]  will increase or decrease the significant figures.

Alternate Paste behaviors:

  • [ Locate Cursor ] enables the use of arrow keys to position the cursor for the insertion.

    • Touch Devices: Arrow keys are on the left side bar help for placement as location with finger touch is difficult.

  • [ ->2x ]         will change the Selection's in place.

  • [ ->2x-del ]  will change the Selection's in place and read-line the selection.

  • [ Swap Sides ] Swap the sides of an equation row. Note that > or < are NOT considered during this swap. (closes the menu)

Touch device cursor control:

  • [ Mouse ] opens a virtual mouse for pixel accurate placement, using finger (or mouse) control.

  • Shift-Arrow is the most common method for selection.  [ Shift-Lock ] and [ Arrows ]  (with home/end) on the editor's left sidebar provide accurate and simple selection on Touch devices.

Untitled7.png
  • The Distributive Property is shown using the Context Menu and canceling terms with red-lines.

  • The Duplicate Row feature, also shown, uses Ctrl_D to copy the equation and removing the red-lined terms.

  • Selection is done using several methods that are common to standard editors.

  • The Math App has several ways to make this easier. These also open the Context Menu:

    • Right-Click a cell selects the side.

    • Right-Click the Equal's cell selects the row.

    • Right-Click a comment selects the comment.

  • Shift-Arrow is the most common method:

    • [ Shift-Lock ] and [ Arrows ] on the editor's left sidebar provide it's use on Touch devices.

  • Cursor Drag-Select works but can be difficult with small terms especially on touch devices.

    • A virtual [ Mouse ] helps with cursor placement to provide pixel accurate placement.

  • The units are red-lined using Shift-Arrow-Delete and Ctrl-D to copy the equation/row and removes the red-lined terms.

  • The Integrated Calculator feature is demonstrated here by selecting the numerical terms and Ctrl-R to calculate the terms, red-line the selected terms and insert the Result.

  • The Intelligent Notes feature demonstrated here, generates comment suggestions based on previous operations.

  • Mathematics often requires use of existing terms to modify an equation. Right-Click selection works for editing but knowing where terms are from is critical for learning.

  • The Row-Note comment fields on rows B2 and B3 are hidden and the arrows that terminate in those notes are hidden when the [>] button is clicked.

  • The Group-Hide feature demonstrated here hides rows that have been grouped using the Section Group feature. The [ Label B- ] is clicked to hide the B-Section.

  • Right-Click Select is used on the equality cell to select the whole row.

  • The [X/Y] and [( )] buttons used to create an identity term that is pasted into the equation and used to convert miles to feet and then from feet to meters.

  • Shift-Arrow-Delete will then be used to red-line the canceled units and Ctrl-D to drop them.

  • Specialty Soft Keyboards, like the Chemistry Keyboard used here, ensures accuracy by inserting complex values directly from the periodic table.

  • Shift-Arrow is used to red-line canceled units and Ctrl-D to drop them.

  • The Integrated Calculator feature is demonstrated here by selecting the numerical terms and Ctrl-R to calculate the terms, red-line the selected terms and insert the Result.

  • Right-Click Select and Touch Paste are used to label the sides of a right triangle directly from equations in the problem statement, after it is inserted using the Drawing Menu and clicking the [ Rt-triangle ] shape button.

  • Right-Click Select and Touch Paste are also used to copy the Pythagorean theorem equation and square-root both sides at the same time with a simple click of the [sq-root] button.

Editor Header:

  • [ Esc... ] buttons provide the expected function as the short-cuts normally used on physical keyboard.

  • [ Deg/Rad ] button sets Degrees or Radians for trigonometry calculations.

  • [ Copy ] same as [ Ctrl-C ]

  • [ Paste ] same as [ Ctrl-V ]

  • [ Zoom ] in or out, same as [ Ctrl+- ]

  • [ Menu ] opens the Context Menu, same as Right-Click.

  • [ PopUp ] hide/show pop-up tool tips.

HeaderBarButtons_Right.png
  • Right-Click a drawing to open the Drawing Context Menu.

  • Select the desired shape and touch the drawing to place the shape.

  • Resize the shape using the top-left Cursor which resizes around the center point.
